Stavanger, Norway's fourth-largest city, serves as the primary access point to the spectacular Lysefjord and its world-famous hiking destinations, Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and Kjerag. A motorhome hire provides the ultimate freedom to explore this dramatic landscape of deep fjords, winding mountain roads, and serene coastal villages at your own pace. Instead of being tied to hotel check-in times and rigid tour schedules, you can wake up to breathtaking views, follow scenic detours on a whim, and immerse yourself in the region's natural beauty. The flexibility of a rolling home base is unmatched for a deep dive into the Fjord Norway experience.
Renting an RV encourages a "slow travel" approach, allowing for a more profound connection with the destination. It combines your transport and accommodation, creating a value-focused way to manage your travel expenses while maximizing your time in nature. With a motorhome, you can easily access trailheads for early morning hikes, linger longer at a picturesque viewpoint, or find a quiet spot to enjoy a home-cooked meal with an epic backdrop. This style of travel is perfect for week-long trips or extended road trips, giving you the autonomy to create a truly personal and unforgettable Norwegian adventure. The cost of a motorhome rental in Stavanger is influenced by several key factors: the time of year, the size and model of the vehicle, and how far in advance you book. Peak season, from June through August, sees the highest demand and prices, while the shoulder seasons of May and September can offer more affordable rates. Bandana RV's dynamic pricing, sourced through our sister company RV PLANET at https://rvplan.net, ensures you see live, competitive rates from multiple suppliers. Booking several months ahead is the best strategy for securing your preferred vehicle at an excellent price. Our curated guide below breaks down the costs you can expect for your trip.
Driving in the Stavanger region is an experience in itself, characterized by narrow, winding roads, frequent ferry crossings, and modern tunnels. While the main E39 highway is well-maintained, the scenic routes that lead to the fjords require careful and confident driving. It's essential to be mindful of your vehicle's height and width, especially on smaller local roads. All rental motorhomes, including large Class A models, can be driven with a standard car driver's license. Adopting a relaxed pace is key; allow extra time for your journeys to safely navigate the terrain and, more importantly, to stop and appreciate the incredible views along the way. Our detailed guides cover everything you need to know for a smooth journey.

The Stavanger area offers a fantastic mix of well-equipped campgrounds and opportunities for wild camping under Norway's "right to roam" law (allemannsretten). Official campgrounds provide essential amenities like electricity hookups, fresh water, waste disposal stations (tømmestasjon), and often laundry facilities and Wi-Fi. They are ideal for recharging and resetting during a longer road trip. For those seeking more solitude, wild camping is permitted in uncultivated areas, provided you stay at least 150 meters from the nearest inhabited house or cabin and follow Leave No Trace principles. Our guide will help you find the perfect places to park for the night.

With Stavanger as your starting point, a wealth of iconic Norwegian road trips are at your fingertips. The most popular route takes you around the stunning Lysefjord, but you can also venture north along the coast towards Bergen or head inland to explore the dramatic mountain passes of the interior. A well-planned route plan is the foundation of a successful motorhome adventure, balancing driving time with opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and relaxation. Whether you're planning a week-long journey focused on the region's highlights or a more extended exploration of Fjord Norway, our route plans provide tested and inspiring suggestions to help you build your perfect trip.

Embarking on your first motorhome trip can feel daunting, but a little preparation goes a long way. Before you leave the rental depot, take the time to conduct a thorough walkthrough of the vehicle with the staff. Understand how to operate all the systems: the water pump, heating, toilet, and electricity hookups. When packing, remember that storage space is limited, so bring soft-sided bags instead of rigid suitcases. Plan your meals in advance but leave room for spontaneity. Most importantly, embrace the learning curve. The freedom and unique experiences of RV travel are well worth the initial adjustment. Our guides are packed with practical advice to ensure your first trip is a success.

We rented a caravan from Bandana for a trip in Croatia and Slovenia for 10 days and enjoyed it greatly. The service we received from Bandana was good service, and full details were passed along regarding everything related to the caravan rental. Avi — the manager of the Bandana office — is attentive to every question and provided detailed answers and clarifications on every topic raised. This was the third time we'd rented a caravan in Europe through Bandana, and once again we very much enjoyed the concept of caravan travel and Bandana's service. On this trip, the caravan itself met our needs reasonably well, but its water pump made a noise, and the accessory equipment supplied with the caravan (utensils, cutlery, kitchen towels, bedding, cleaning tools and supplies) was partial and less complete compared to the richer equipment that came with our previous caravan rentals (in other European destinations).
Our experience with Bandana was wonderful. Everything went smoothly. The price was incredibly low compared to anything else we checked (including renting from private owners). We got good advice from Avi that also made the experience much easier and more enjoyable. We'll definitely come back!
We had a very positive experience with the caravan arranged for our vacation in Turkey. Even when the van we were supposed to rent was damaged in an accident before we were due to pick it up, a replacement van was located and provided to us at short notice. Excellent service, thank you.
