Our family RV adventure from Seattle to Anchorage was nothing short of a dream come true. We rented a spacious motorhome, loaded it with essentials, and set out on a 29-day journey that blended awe-inspiring natural beauty, cultural discoveries, and plenty of family-friendly fun. This one-way road trip offered the perfect balance of adventure for parents and entertainment for kids, with well-planned stops that kept everyone engaged.
Starting in Seattle, we marveled at aviation history at the Boeing Future of Flight Museum before crossing into Canada. British Columbia greeted us with breathtaking landscapes and unique attractions, like the Hell's Gate Airtram, where the Fraser River roared beneath us, and the Tuckkwiowhum Heritage Village, a fascinating glimpse into Indigenous history and culture. The lush vineyards at Monte Creek Ranch Winery were a perfect stop for parents to enjoy while the kids explored the surrounding scenery.
As we journeyed deeper into the Canadian Rockies, highlights like the Grizzly Bear Interpretive Centre and Alpine Rafting brought us closer to nature’s wild side, while the soothing waters of Banff Upper Hot Springs gave us a chance to relax as a family. The Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure was a standout experience, with its massive icefields leaving us in awe. Alberta’s iconic Highway 93 led us to jaw-dropping mountain views and opportunities to stretch our legs at scenic stops like the Cave and Basin National Historic Site.
From the Rockies, we transitioned into the remote beauty of the Yukon. We explored treasures like the Northern Lights Centre, which captivated everyone with its dazzling displays and stargazing opportunities, and shopped for local goods at the Fort Nelson Farmers Market. For a taste of history and a touch of whimsy, the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway charmed us with its quirky atmosphere.
As we entered Alaska, the road narrowed and the landscapes expanded into something truly majestic. We learned about conservation at the American Bald Eagle Foundation and spotted wildlife at the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. The sheer scale of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park was humbling, and the stop at The Musk Ox Farm delighted the kids with its up-close encounters with these fascinating animals. Anchorage welcomed us with open arms, where we wrapped up our journey with cultural discoveries at the Alaska Native Heritage Center and some last-minute shopping at the Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall.
Traveling in a campervan made this road trip comfortable, flexible, and incredibly rewarding.
