This document contains a brief summary of our rental conditions. The full details of our rental contract do apply. Rates quoted are in Australian dollars.

Driver’s Licence and Minimum Age
For the safety of our guests a current and full motor vehicle driver licence is required to be shown at pick-up and the driver needs to be present. If the driver licence is not in English then we require an accredited English translation or an International Driver Permit. Drivers must be 18 years of age or over with a full motor vehicle driver licence or hold an Australian Green P licence and the licence must be valid for the whole length of the rental.
If you wish to make any changes to your booking (including voluntary downgrade) the booking will be calculated by using either the original flex rate or the flex rate that is valid at the time of the booking change, depending on whichever rate is higher. There are no exceptions to this rule. The following situations are classified as booking alterations:
- Change of name
- Change to pick-up or drop-off dates
- Change pick-up or drop-off branch location
- Change of RV category
- Change of rate scheme including special rates
If the rate scheme or RV category is changed, this is considered a new booking and cancellation fees may apply to the original booking.
If there are any last-minute alternations made within 14 days of pick-up we will be happy to accommodate these, however due to the short notice if the holiday is shortened the number of days originally booked will be charged.
If the pick-up or drop-off location is altered within 14 days of pick up, a relocation fee may also apply.
If cancelled on day of pick-up or no show - 100% of rental including any applicable fees e.g. One Way.
Consecutive Apollo Motorhome/Campervan rentals can be combined to qualify for a long-term discount rate. Rentals in the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Ireland on Star RV, Apollo, Cheapa Campa and Hippie Camper can be combined to obtain a long-term discount rate, providing travel is within a 3 month period. If drop off of a vehicle and pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one way fee and minimum rental period conditions. This discount does not apply to completed bookings.
Change of Drop Off Destination after Pick-Up
If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from the Hippie Camper Reservations. Subject to the change being approved, a minimum additional charge of minimum AU$750 will apply.
If the guest wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Hippie Camper Reservations who will advise of the additional costs. Rental extension is subject to fleet availability. The extra cost (calculated on the current rate of the day) of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at an Hippie Camper Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter being charged double the daily gross rental rate.
Change Of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to a refund.
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked within 14 days of pick up or during the rental then they will not be entitled to any refund.
Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports). Transfers to and from the Hippie Camper branch are not included in the rental price. It is the renter’s responsibility to get to and from the branch.
Hippie Camper has branches in Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Branch Hours and Public Holidays
All branches are closed Christmas Day, New Years Day, Good Friday and Australia Day Public Holiday.
All locations: Mon-Fri 8am to 4:00pm (latest pick-up is 3.30pm) Sat 8am to 12:00pm. Sundays on request. After hours drop offs available outside of these times - we will provide a lock box service on request for those needing to return outside of standard hours.
RV Introduction and Show Through
On pick-up, our staff provide guests with a thorough RV show through with all the necessary information guests need to know about the interior and exterior features of their RV. This ensures guests are comfortable and confident with their RV before they start their road trip.
To ensure guests have a thorough RV show through before starting their road trip, they will need to pick up their RV from the branch by 4pm.
The minimum rental for all vehicles is five days.
A 7 day minimum rental period applies during the period of 4-7 June for pick up in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
A 7 day minimum rental period applies Between 19 September to 7 October 2020.
A 7 day minimum rental period applies during the period of 18 December to 2 January.
Minimum rental periods are subject to change during other peak periods.
A compulsory cleaning fee of AU$75 will aplly for rentals 5 days or less.
One Way Rentals
A one way rental has a minimum rental period of at least seven days. A one way rental fee of AU$165 is charged for each rental.
2WD RVs aren’t equipped for rough terrain and cannot be driven on unsealed roads. Well-maintained access roads which lead to recognised campgrounds and are less than 12 kilometres long are allowed.
RVs can be driven to any island on sealed roads as long as written permission is obtained from Hippie Assist prior to travel.
All Hippie Campers must not be driven to Tasmania.
Hippie Hitop and Hippie Endeavour can be driven to the Northern Territory at an additional cost of AU$30 per day as long as written permission is obtained from Hippie Assist prior to travel. The Hippie Drift is not allowed in the Northern Territory.
Hippie reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict RV movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the rental period.
Guests who travel to restricted areas without permission will void all liability cover in the event of damage or accident, and may be subject to a penalty fee of $300 charged on each occasion identified.
Rates include unlimited kilometres.
For the safety of guests please don’t underestimate the time it will take to get from one point to another. While our RVs include unlimited kilometres we recommend travelling a maximum of 300 kilometres per day or the equivalent of 4-5 hours driving. We encourage our guests to take a break from driving at least every 2 hours.
Vehicle Condition - returning the RV
Vehicles must be returned with the interior cleaned and holding tanks emptied. The vehicles exterior does not require cleaning unless it is difficult to ascertain the condition of the vehicle on return. $200 Fees will apply if the vehicle is not returned in the required condition.
Drop and Go Service
All vehicles are to be returned with all surfaces wiped down (kitchen, floors, cupboard, tables, toilet & shower cubicle, windows etc.), fridge cleaned and emptied, rubbish removed, excessively dirty exteriors cleaned and beds converted back to dinettes. Should guests be on a tight schedule we can do this for them for $75 – purchased at pick up. You simply need to Empty the grey water and toilet cassette, put away the clean dishes and return the vehicle neat and tidy to our Apollo team. The Hippie team will do the rest: Clean the kitchen and appliances, clear and clean the fridge, clean all cupboards and benches, clean the bathroom, clean the driving cabin and dispose of your last days' garbage. Garbage must be bagged. Excessive dirt/mud inside or outside the vehicle will incur additional charges.
Although we run late model vehicles, it may happen that small repairs are required. Repairs up to AU$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed unless the damage is caused by the renter. For amounts over AU$100, Hippie Camper will need to be informed in advance. All vehicles are enrolled in the Australian Automobile Association and 24hr mechanical emergency roadside assistance is available if needed simply contact Apollo Assist at 1300 798 212.
Infringements, Tolls and Fines
Apollo will pass on any charges the guest receives for traffic infringements, toll or parking fines during their road trip For Toll Way Fees received, Apollo reserves the right to charge to the guest’s credit or debit card upon receiving the toll way fee, and an administration fee of $75 to cover associated administrative costs per toll way fee received.
Apollo offers guests the option of purchasing our Toll Package for $39 which gives guests a $50 ‘toll credit’. When travelling through toll ways the credit will be used up to the value of $50. Once $50 is exceeded, another toll package of $39 will be automatically charged to the guest’s credit card. (a .75c registration matching fee applies within the $50 credit).
Both - Service dogs and pet dogs are allowed to travel in our RVs with written permission from Hippie Camper at time of booking. There is a AU$200 pet service fee, this excludes service animals.
Smoking is not allowed in our vehicles.
Payment at branches
For security reasons, Hippie Camper will only accept credit card or debit card for rental charges paid on vehicle pick up or drop off. Cash payments will not be accepted at rental branches. The Bond on the vehicle is only payable at pick-up by Credit Card or Debit Credit Card. The Bond cannot be paid with a pre-paid Credit Card.
We only accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Visa and MasterCard will incur an additional 1.69% surcharge on any transaction. American Express and Diners Club will incur an additional 2.8% surcharge on any transaction.
Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 21 working days depending on the renter’s Financial Institution.
Administration Fees / Taxes
Our rates include 10% GST.
Add AU$27 Net per day.
- The minimum amount payable per rental segment for a Value Pack will be based on the minimum rental period applicable for your rental.
- The maximum amount payable per rental segment for the Value Pack is AU$1,350 – i.e. 50 nights rental.
The Value Pack includes: Liability Reduction Option (The High Road), Pre-purchased Gas Bottle, Personal Kits, Extra Driver Fees, Camp Chairs and Table and baby/booster seats (with prior request).
Pre-purchase Gas Bottle (Included in the Value Pack)
A full gas bottle(s) needs to be pre-purchased and can be returned empty to Hippie at the completion of the road trip. Gas bottles for the Hippie range cost $AU25.
Limit of Liability
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period.
We reserve the right to refuse any rental at our discretion.
